Platelet-Rich fibrin (PRF) has emerged as a promising autologous (meaning coming from you – the client!) treatment for use in aesthetic and regenerative medicine.
PRF is a high concentration of platelets derived from whole blood which is isolated by centrifugation to separate and concentrate platelet-containing plasma from red blood cells.
PRF has a number of benefits. The treatment can improve skin texture and tone, reduce fine lines and scarring, stimulate collagen and skin cell production for a plumper, more radiant complexion.
PRF is great for anyone who is concerned by any areas of skin that are starting to lose elasticity and volume. It’s also a highly effective method for stimulating your body’s cells to produce new, healthy looking skin. It is extremely effective for that delicate under eye area where some clients are not candidates for filler.
It is also used to increase the structural integrity and health of the skin, particularly sun damaged skin.
PRF can also be used for hair rejuvenation. The platelets and growth factors are collected and then injected into the scalp where the hair is thinning. This will stimulate hair follicles and make hair grow. It improves the quality of hair and thickens fine hair as well.
PRF is also indicated to help with pain relief related to osteoarthritis and joint injuries. The growth factors released by PRF attract stem cells which help repair cartilage and connective tissue. It aids in collagen production for cushioning and elastin production for flexibility. Research has shown that PRF injections can alleviate arthritis pain as well as steroid injections, but in a much different way that actually rejuvenates the cartilage and other joint tissues - rather than causing further breakdown, which can occur with prolonged steroid use.
It is recommended that you receive one injection to your affected joint, and return in 2 weeks for a second injection. Maintenance treatments of one injection only are as needed after your initial 2 treatments.
